Wexford Against War Rally

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Monday February 03, 2003 00:54author by Wexford against War Report this post to the editors

Saturday February 8th

Wexford against War, a broad coalition of concerned individuals, associations, trade union members & political activists, are combining to host an Anti-War Rally in Wexford Town on Saturday, February 8th.

Assembly point for the Rally will be the Bullring in Wexford Town at 2pm. The Rally will then proceed to the Monument, to the founder of the American Navy, Commodore John Barry, on Crescent Quay, where prominent local and national speakers will address the attendance.

Wexford against War invite and encourage all individuals, families, groups and associations who support a peaceful resolution to the Current crisis in the Middle East to attend on the day to show maximum public opposition to any impending war.

Wexford against War share the objectives of the Irish anti-war movement and the Peace and Neutrality Alliance:

1.We oppose the military assault on Iraq by the USA and it's allies.
2. We oppose the anti-Islamic racism arising out of the current war drive.
3. We also call for a halt on attacks on civil liberties and the right to protest under the guise of the "war on terrorism".
4. We seek justice for the Palestinian people.
5. We seek to develop peaceful alternatives to war to address the reasons for injustice and conflict in the world.
6. We seek an end to the use of Irish airports and airspace by the US military and oppose any Irish involvement in a war on Iraq

Proceedings on the day will be chaired by Michael Wall, Wexford Branch, SIPTU.

Speakers confirmed to date include:

Roger Cole, Chairman Peace & Neutrality Alliance, member National Executive, Labour Party

Cllr John Dwyer, Sinn Féin, New Ross Town Council, member Ard Comhairle, Sinn Féin

Michael Cuthbert, Wexford Green Party
