Being anti European these days labels you a facist.![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() A look through the mainstream media in the wake of the shock election victory, of Jean-marie le Pen, shows some alarming rehtoric being used by the European thought police to label anti European sentiment as facist. As the worlds power brokers keep pushing for an ever more globalised world, we in Europe must carefully examine the way our own free trade eutopia is evolving. The Seattle protests in 1999, clearly spelt out the opposition to proposed MAI (multinational agreement of Investments) within the context of the WTO. But these plans have found a new vehicle in the guise of the FTAA (free trade agreement of the Americas) which unsurprisingly is getting little media attention. The FTAA proposes to include 34 countries of the Americas and Carribian, into the largest free trade block in the World. This would seriously effect the countries involved and would lead to a situation where foreign corporations would have the right to overide laws in member states if they interfered with profit. Public services like health, education , energy and envirnomental protection are all considered monopolies by free trade advocates. The giant parcel delevery service UPS is currently proceding with court action against the Canadian Governments postal service, behind closed doors, claiming that this service is a monopoly. should the case win, the precedent would have disasterous implications. With relation to our own situation in Europe the drive is on to enlarge the Union, increase the trading area, in short, increase the power of the larger states and the vested interests that control their decision making. Our own Economy is now at the mercy of large powerful corporations, as is every economy in Europe, and as a result our ability to control our own affairs is under threat. Its only a matter of time before our own state services are either concidered a monopoly or too much of a burden for the Government to handle. Europe is also embracing the WTO and free trade ethos with enthusiasm. There are free trade agreements with countries in South America (partly the reason that the U.S is so eager to get the FTAA passed) meaning European interests are free to roam spreading the message of free trade to countries who will now face a new threat to their freedom. Europe is scrambling to become a serious contender to the United States global dominance and with the benifit of having the percieved good cop image. Europe is going to happen, your either with us or a facist. |
