RTE Propaganda angers Senators

'The Marianne Finucane Show'

Senators yesterday expressed their shock and anger at the unbalanced nature of the RTE Radio 1 " Marianne Finucane Show" , Thursday 30th January 2003. Calls were made for the Oireachtas to challenge allegations made by an acedemic on the show.

Thursday 30 January 2003

Seanad Eireann

Senator David Norris referring to "The Marianne Finucane Show" - 30 Jan 2003:

"..One of the most unbalanced programmes I have heard in a long time and I was very surprised.....a not terribly articulate woman from the Peace Camp was ambushed by a whole range of people.....an acedemic was unchallenged in questioning Irish Neutrality and saying the Government had effectively lied about the state of Neutrality in this country and I think the Oireachtas must challenge it."

Fianna Fail Senator Leabhras O'Murchu referring to the same show:

"I was absoloutely shocked at how unbalanced the programme was. I was so angry I almost had to pull the car in off the road because I couldn't believe what I was listening to on the radio and I think one of the reasons this is happening is because we are not providing the leadership here ourselves. There are many issues to be discussed.

It's a matter of taking a moral stand as a country which has suffered itself in the past."

Senator Mary Henry said:

"The hypocracy of this situation is unbelievable."

Brendan O'Connor, journalist with the Sunday Independent and self-styled comedian was openly allowed to sneer at anti-war activists and make sexist remarks .

Professor Trevor Salmon of the politics an international relations Dept of Aberdeen University made unbelievable and unchallenged assertions about the state of Irish Neutrality.

Perhaps a letter to you local TD or former trainee priest Bob Collins as he weasels away behind the scenes in RTE? This is the man who went to court to preserve the Broadcasting Ban on RTE ! Imagine a Turkey going to court to make sure Christmas was preserved? I think it's time to pluck this Turkey and his friends in high and low places and institute a free and fair National Broadcaster.

If the cap fits....

I have heard from a colleague that on this mornings Marianne Finucane Show,
there were callers phoning in and going live on the radio, condenming the
Peace Camp and Mary Kelly. Brendan O'Connor has clearly roused the right wing
elements of our society and those who think uncritically, for as we know he
propagated many lies and distorted the facts yesterday.

The government press office like to keep their finger on the pulse of public
opinion and regulary monitor radio shows and what is in the papers, so that they
can continually modify their spin on things. They will be well pleased yesterday
and today.

I should also add that it is no small coincidence that first thing yesterday morning,
the 'leaders' of eight EU countries pledged their 'solidarity' with the murderous Bush
led War on Iraq. In the government eyes, the timing of this piece of propanganda such
as was the Marianne Finucane Show yesterday was absolutely perfect timing.

If you watched Sky News yesterday, you will see they were over the moon about the EU coup,
even Blair was smiling again.

There is one problem though and that is the vast majority of the population in these same
said countries (UK, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Poland, Hungray and Denmark) do not support the
war. Their declaration by their 'leaders' was a fraud. They do not represent the wishes of
the people

"The Marianne Finucane show"

Friday 31 Jan 2003.

Todays show began with a a few hastily read comments in favour of the Peace Camp . Then the spinning began.

Bernard Kelly who said his office was at the entrance to Shannon airport claimed to have conducted his own study yesterday and that of 1200 cars that passed the Peace Camp only four blew their horns in support.

It is of course illegal to sound the horn except in case of emergency and Gardai regularly prosecute people who blow horns in protest or otherwise inappropriately. Were there Gardai present when Bernard did his check "between five and six o'clock" on Wednesday evening, listening from his office?

"Donal", a former Irish Army Office was then wheeled in to further fuel the arguments put forward by Professor Trevor Sammon yesterday. The same arguments that so incensed our Senators .

We must remember that "Donals" old pals in the Officer corps of the Irish Army stand to gain promotion and prestige from belonging to any new European Army or NATO sub-devision. Lots of jobs for the boys and lots of private firms too with investor rich options (handy for investing that retirement handshake!). Even retired old brass like him could find themselves in nice private security and defence industry firms as advisers if they bleat the right tune now. Write a book "Donal" you might find some US publishing company will give you half a million for it. Call it "selling your soul"!

His argument went that we have never been neutral since we have always co-operated with the "allieds".
He told of an RAF Officer who "escaped from the Curragh" and made his way to London where he was promptly returned by "red faced British officials". He did not Escape! He had in fact promised to return to the camp on leaving but said he forgot his gloves and went back in to get them ,not re-swearing to return agin upon his second leaving. He provaricated this in his defence as army officers will but it was never a runner.

"Donal" called Neutrality a "total fudge" and asked the people in the "so called Peace Camp, who built our economy except the united states. Who created and sustains our peace process". He said it was time for "co-operation and payback".

This is why the Army do the bus service or refuse collection in time of trouble - not the thinking!

In voting "Yes" to Nice, the new constitutional provision prohibiting Ireland from joining an EU common defence was very much sold as "enshrining our neutrality" and there are hundreds of hours of politicians and experts on all side selling it thus. Now thy try and say , "ah, sure we were never really really neutral".

The United States did not build the Irish economy, the Irish did with our labour and natural resources and that wasn't easy since for hundreds of years we were building the English economy and keeping their and our own landlord class in luxury. When it suited US firms to do business here they did and when it didn't they packed up and left and whether or not we agree with them politically has little to do with it. Most US imports come from China !

It was the Irish who built America and Britain with cheap labour and their lives lost in sub standard work and living accomodation . We own them nothing except the same respect they should show us as a soverign people. They should not attempt to bully us or bend us to their will because there is an eight hundred year history of that not working. But what would a toadie lie "Donal" or his brainwashed controller class understand about that?

What's Mariannes excuse?

Finucaine was a total disgrace to journalism, even by rte's,low standards. It was a total setup from the start when Finucane tried her feminist hypocritical bullshit at the beginning with questions such as "tell me all about yourself" as she baited the trap for the female protester. The guy that she had waiting was a complete shit.
I believe she also had a 'expert' to interpret neutrality on the show, because according to Finucane 'Neuutrality' is so 'confusing' It reminded me of when Finucane had another expert on her show to discuss the best way to change people's decision after the first Nice referendum.

It is indeed Finucane and RTE mission to lie and misinform the people and they have been doing it for years now. It is just a little more blatant when the stakes are high such as now that they are trying to subvert our neutrality and during both Nice referenda.
