| CND in Solidarity Action with Irish Sellafield Postcard campaign national | miscellaneous | news report  Thursday April 25, 2002 12:08 by Graham Caswell caswell at indigo dot ie Resistance to Sellafield Continues Activists from the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND) will ask people to sign a giant postcard opposing Sellafield in solidarity with the Irish anti-Sellafield postcard campaign. Activists from the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND) will commemorate the anniversary of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster on Friday by asking people to sign a giant postcard opposing Sellafield and nuclear power, to send to the government. The action is in solidarity with the Irish anti-Sellafield postcard campaign. Norwegians protestors have also joined the campaign to shut down Sellafield as objection to the nuclear facility grows. Rae Street, Chair of Greater Manchester CND said "Ali Hewson couldn't have put it better - the British Government is experimenting with our lives. We want to send a clear message to Tony Blair and British Nuclear Fuels - that we in the North West, along with our Irish and Norwegian friends, do not want to wait to find out how a Chernobyl style nuclear accident will affect our regions. We want Sellafield shut now!" The CND protestors will be in St Ann's Square (Manchester?) from noon till 2pm on Friday 26th April,with banners and attitude.
