Sometimes politicians have to lose to win so the other side can show its true colours. Trump is the standout example, says Prof James Allan. Had he won in 2020, we would not have had the blitz of the last four weeks.

Anyone got any updates on the case?

THE spray-painting of anti-war graffiti on a US Hercules aircraft at Shannon Airport last September was entirely justifiable, a district court was told yesterday.
DCU student Eoin Dubsky (22), made the claim at Tulla District Court where he succeeded in having one charge of entering the airport at Shannon and climbing the airport's perimeter fence dismissed.
Judge Joseph Mangan directed that the charge be dismissed after ruling that the prosecution offered no evidence.
However, Dubsky faced a second charge of criminal damage without lawful excuse of the US military aircraft.
The court heard that at 4.40am on September 4, Aer Rianta Duty Airport Manager John Fielding received a call from Dubsky telling him that he had just sprayed a peace symbol on the Hercules aircraft and was waiting to be picked up.
Dubsky, of Whitewalls, Ballymoney, Gorey, Co Wexford said that he sprayed the US aircraft "because it belongs to a belligerent state involved in carrying out an acts of aggression against the people of Iraq and Afghanistan".
Insp Tom Kennedy told the court that Dubsky had carried out a criminal act. That was rejected by Dubsky.
In support of Dubsky, two women one an Iraqi citizen gave evidence of the effects of US bombing on Iraq. Dr Manor Hassan Rubaie, an Iraqi doctor, said: "The health conditions are very bad, especially with the various types of cancers that have been brought about by US bombing over the last decade."
On behalf of Dubsky, solicitor Paul O'Shea stated that he had lawful excuse to carry out his actions.
He claimed it is unconstitutional that Shannon is being used by US aircraft without Dail consent.
Judge Mangan adjourned the case until January 9.

With apologies to the (very) late Francis Scott Key, we've amended the "Star Spangled Banner" to use it as a protest song during the case of the DPP -V- Mr. Eoin Dubsky

The Paint Splattered Banner

Oh, say, Eoin Dubsky,
Before dawn's early light
how so proudly he sprayed
on a warplane at Shannon.
With a bright orange can,
he disrupted their flight.
With the paint he delayed
more effective than cannon.

The cops they did stare
at the artwork with care
'tis proof that the might
of our cause is still there
We say that this bright orange painter is brave
Let Eoin Dubsky go free, send him home with a wave.

This was performed outside the courthouse in Tulla, during recess.
-------------------------
the other song we sang was not my composition.
It's to the tune of "If you're happy and you know it clap your hands"

BOMB IRAQ

If we cannot find Osama, Bomb Iraq
If the markets hurt your Mama, Bomb Iraq
If the terrorists are Saudi,
and the bank takes your Audi
and the TV shows are bawdy
Bomb Iraq

If the corporate scandals growin', Bomb Iraq
And your ties to them are showin', Bomb Iraq
If the smokin' guns ain't smokin',
we don't care and we're not jokin'
that Saddam will soon be croakin'
Bomb Iraq

Even if we have no Allies, Bomb Iraq
From the sand dunes to the valleys, Bomb Iraq
So to hell with the inspections,
let's look tough for the elections
Close your mind and take directions
Bomb Iraq

While the Globe is slowly warming, Bomb Iraq
While the Globe is slowly warming, Bomb Iraq
If the ozone hole is growin'
some things we prefer not knowin'
(though our ignorance is showin)
Bomb Iraq

So here's one for dear old daddy, Bomb Iraq
So here's one for dear old daddy, Bomb Iraq
Saying no would be like treason
It's the Hussein huntin' season
Even if we have no REASON
BOMB IRAQ

Anon from the US of A.
