CORK ANARCHIST ANTI-ELECTION CAMPAIGN ORGANISING MEETING

(Wednesday April 17th at 8 PM at the CAZ)

A General Election is imminent.

Your 'chance' at democracy is about to arrive! Over the next few months the public will be exhorted to 'use' their vote and 'play their part'. But towards what end and for who's benefit?

This time around anarchists around the country are organising an Anti-Election Campaign. The purpose is two fold:

To make anarchist arguments about general elections and democracy more well known. After all whoever you vote for the Government gets in!

Secondly to convince more of the public not to participate and use direct action of bring about change To run an effective campaign we will need to organise as soon as possible. A lot is possible and there is plenty out there interested in what we have to say. So get along to the forthcoming 'Organising Meeting'. Bring ideas, arguments and proposals:

Provisional Agenda
1) A discussion on why we are Opposed To Elections
2) Proposals for the campaign in the Cork area.

In solidarity Kevin Doyle

[This meeting is being called by the WSM in Cork in the interests of building a broad anarchist campaign against the elections. We are circulating information about the campaign to any anarchists we know of. If you know someone who is interested or might participate, let them know.]

ALthough I am a paid up member of a political party I'm not sure if I'll vote for anyone in Limerick East (there is no green candidate anyway there). But I completely understand why people don't want to vote.
I won't go into the "stay outside" v "reform from inside" debate, but I'll say this.
But don't let anyone else MISUNDERSTAND why you don't vote.
Don't let them think it's lazyness, lack of knowledge or any other excuse.
USE the BALLOT PAPER - to NOT VOTE for anyone

IF you don't think there's a good candidate spoil your vote and say "NO ONE WORTH VOTING FOR" or "NONE OF THE ABOVE" (like in "Brewster's Millions")
If you are completely opposed to the whole system, spoil your vote and say so e.g. "THE SYSTEM IS ROTTEN, THE PEOPLE ALWAYS LOSE"

IF 20,000 people vote for "NONE OF THE ABOVE" and only 15,000 vote for the most popular candidate, it shows them what the public REALLY thinks of our political system. I am told that this happened in Argentina, where 40% of ballots were spoiled so why can't it happen here?
