Irish man killed in Jenin, Irish woman injured

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Friday November 22, 2002 14:38author by Shaneauthor address Ramallah, West Bank Report this post to the editors

Irish man killed, Irish woman injured, 9 year old child killed by Israeli soldiers in Jenin refugee camp.

A Senior Irish UN worker has been killed in Jenin refugee camp in a gun battle between IDF troops and Palestinian fighters. Caoimhe Butterly was also shot by Israeli solders while trying to help injured Palestinian children who had also been injured. A 9 year old palestinian chlid was also killed.
Caoimhe just spoke to Dubai TV where she said that the UN worker died because he was left for an hour before the occupying army would allow an ambulance through. He bled to death. Presumably her injuries are not very serious as she was able to give an interview.
She stressed that this story will only get attention because the person killed was an international. Palestinians are killed on an almost daily basis.

BBC World just reported that the uN official killed was actuall a British Citizen.
Reports just coming in of an explosion in Jerusalem. Situation is tense here in ramallah. Yesterday the PA evacuated all their offices in ramallah and the red cross sent in extra ambulances and medical staff, fearing that the israeli soldiers would reenter ramallah. they withdrew partially over two weeks ago and lifted night curfew for the first time since june 23. Also yesterday drone aircraft were constantly flying around the city adding to fears that we'd have tanks patroling the streets again.

can anyone definitely say what nationality the UN officer was? I've read here and in reuters that he was Irish, but on two irish publications that he was british.

Who the hell cares what the man's nationality was, he has become yet another victim of the Zionist Racists. I am relieved to hear that Caoimhe Butterly is not seriously injured.
