Cityjet strikers arrested

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Friday October 25, 2002 15:03author by Andrew Report this post to the editors

A number of the SIPTU City Jet strikers (plus SP councillor Clare Daly - who is in the rank and file 'Dublin Airport Workers Network') were arrested today. This is for breaching the injuction given to management prohibiting protests/pickets on City Jet. They are in the Bridewell garda station at present.

I was out there last night. Were any of the lads who were there then arrested or just the people who were injuncted?

SIPTU fat-cats in Liberty Hall are denying that the people involved in the airport protests are their members...

They have described the Dublin Airport Workers Network as a "splinter group" and have refused to comment to the media on today's arrests...

Well you have to remember that Des Garaghty and the rest of the bureacrats are very busy men, they have cheese and wine receptions with big business to go to. They have to do deals with our 'partners'. They can't be involved in things like real struggle or strikes.

The arrested strikers (and Clare Daly of DAWN) were released this afternoon - but are back in court next Thursday.

Where are the likes of Des Geraghty when it comes to workers fighting for their rights? Where are the so-called 'Labour' party?

I'll tell you where they are..... they are thinking about the next deal they will do with the employers. Actually tonight they're probably congratulating Pat Rabbitte with a few glasses of bubbly in some posh hotel.

PS
Why dont the media say that Clare is a Socialist Party councillor?

These pickets deserve the maximum amount of support possible. Airport workers have been screwed over in a big way for years now. Maybe SIPTU are only interested in supporting rich pilots.
