Aonghus Hourihane, UCD SU President, hated by students and activists

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Tuesday October 22, 2002 10:41author by UCD activist Report this post to the editors

Aonghus Hourihane is well known as one of the most right-wing student 'leaders' in the country. Over the past number of weeks this hatred has grown far deeper.

Aonghus Hourihane is a hate figure among most students in UCD, and beyond. Throughout the sutudent movement he is well known for his "back slapping and back stabbing". The following are grievences that many have with him.

1. He's a loyal member of Fianna Fáil
2. His hatred of anything to the left of the Labour Party (he hates Labour too)
3. His Machievellian approach to SU politics
4. He appoints his cronies to positions such as Accomadation officer.
5. He is homophobic
6. He gave the Gardaí information on protesters that were assaulted at RTS in May
7. He, and his FF cronies, are in control of a number of Societies that act as FF covergroups (eg. F1 Soc, PhilSoc, C&E)
8. At the time of the last election these societies campaigned for him illegally.
9. His hair cut, his head is like a badgers arse.
10. He wants to go for a 3rd term
11. He is liar
12. He's from Offally
13. He gets loyal support from the Agricultural Science Faculty
14. He's even hated within FF in UCD, the Hourihane and Tierney-Crowe factions hate each other.

author by UCD activistpublication date Tue Oct 22, 2002 10:43author address author phone Report this post to the editors

15. He fully support the re-introduction of fees.
16. He has a vitriolic hatred of the Campaign for Free Eduation.
17. None of the full-time SU officers have the guts to stand up against him
18. He's a bully
19. He has a view of women that comes from the 1950s
20. He wants UCD to disaffiliate from USI because he will never get a career out of USI, because every student activist in the country hates him.

- 10. He wants to go for a 3rd term

I thought the UCD constitution only allowed you to serve as a sabbatical officer for two years? (Though I also thought that you couldn't serve two terms in the same post... its been a while...)

If that man Aonghus Hourihane ever runs for public office I will personally go to his constituency and rip down all his posters.

Aonghus if you're reading this, if you're thinking of running for Ofally Co Council in 2004, I will be there ripping down your posters.

How can an SU president support fees??

Well if the feeling in UCD is strong against him do something about it! Stand up to him and get someone into the position instead of him.
Name calling here achieves nothing, get of your ass and do something about it!

It is often the shoemaker's wife that wears the worst shoes

and on the historical note what
was the 1950´s view of women?
is that on a UCD seminar course or something?

well it depends on the way the head is removed.

ripping it off would almost certainly have fatal results.

however if the head was removed in a hospital it might be possible to link it up to a life support system.

the head could then be forced to watch consciousness raising videos as produced by WERC.

If people dislike him so much, why don't either get a petition against
him to resign, reogranise the rules of the SU along more democratic lines,
making such positions recalleable, whenever they step outside their
mandate.

He only has power, because the rest are quite happy to be led. Just take
action yourseleves. The more action ordinary students take, the less relevant
he will become, and he will thereby lose power and influence.

occupy the college > call a EGM meeting > pass a motion of support for the occupation > If SU then don't support it > chuck em out for breaking a SU mandate.
simple really

I feel obliged to say that we are against
cyrogenic freezing of either bodies or heads.
but Reclaim the Freezer!
didn´t have the slogan ring to it.

With this intensified focus on advanced science comes a heightened media awareness of not only cryonics, but also health and optimal anti-aging related issues. Along with simultaneous media attention on topics such as cloning, stem cell and DNA research, and achieving a longer life through scientific advances, the discipline of cryonics could very well become a commonplace occurrence in the next few years. At Alcor, we believe the application of cryonics will occupy a significant role in many of these life extension technologies, and we are excited by the prospect of playing our part in augmenting the development of extended research in these areas.

Many people are under the impression that a cryonic suspension procedure is unaffordable, due to perceived high dollar investment involved. Surprisingly, these suspension funding costs and continued care for a person in cryonic suspension can be covered by most term life, whole life, or universal life insurance policies. Alcor can refer you to life insurance agents who specialize in funding cryonic suspension with these policies.

The Alcor Life Extension Foundation is the world’s largest and most technically advanced provider of cryonics services, and we offer these specialized services today as an exciting and progressive alternative for you and your loved ones for tomorrow. The Alcor team is dedicated to providing you the very best, state-of-the-art cryonic suspension services, with unparalleled customer service, attention to detail, and expertise. Alcor is celebrating its 30th year as the unparalleled leader in the industry.

We hope you will enjoy your visit to our website, and will take the time to learn more about Alcor, the discipline of cryonics, and our cryonic suspension services. Please be sure to contact us today, so we may answer any questions you might have. We hope to hear from you soon!

wasnt there something i heard from a little dickybird about whorihane and an 'alleged' sex scandal in ucd? i don't think i dreamt this one. hmmm. but i have never actually met, spoken to or even seen a picture of this 'man', but i hate him intensely, and i dint even go to uni in this country.

and he's from fucking offaly. is he brian cowans bastard son or anything? is there a resemblence at all. could someone post a pic or direct me to a link where i can see this whorihane fella?

but i am serious about the 'allegations' i think i heard something a while back. does anyone have any further info on this matter? are they brave enough to post it? surely all the scandal gets round the SU building? come on lads and ladies, get the tabloid machine going!

Then we can decapitate the pigfucker.

It's alleged that he tried in on with a union employee. It came out last year before the elections, unfortunaly the college papers couldn't (and still cant) print the story because of possible legal action.

It's believed by some that the reason for his dispute with the SU Counnsellor is because he tried it on with her too, and she was having none of it, so he sacked her.
