 From Ireland.com(mercial) breaking news... By Kilian Doyle Last updated: 21-10-02, 16:29 A 62-year-old activist from Dublin has been injured in a clash with Israeli soldiers in the West Bank. Mr Ray O'Reilly, a retired telecommunications manager, received a black eye and bruising on the face after a confrontation with soldiers. He was taking part in the Olive Harvest Campaign, organised by the International Solidarity Movement, which assists Palestinian olive farmers to harvest their crops in the face of intimidation by Israeli settlers. Mr O'Reilly, who has been in the West Bank for a week, was with a group of international activists at olive fields in Jaiyus yesterday protesting at the use of bulldozers to tear up Palestinian land in preparation for building a fence. They clashed with a group of 10 Israeli soldiers, military police and security guards protecting the construction workers. "We were in a heated moment of confrontation with the soldiers," an ISM spokeswoman said. "The military were shooting in the air and using tear gas and sound bombs to disperse the protesters." She said Mr O'Reilly fell during the incident, hitting his head.
