| Woomera detention centre (Aus): fences pulled down!!![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Amazing reporst coming on from melbourne indymedia http://melbourne.indymedia.org http://www.womera2002.com http://noborder.org/peoplesmuggler Audio transcript from melbourne indymedia: We are coming up to the fence. People have broken down the fence and we're about 100m away from the main gate, they're about 20 feet high. Fence is down very quickly there's 300 people, maybe, coming in, 500 people coming into the area. Everyone's ecsatic, people are making contact with the other detainee. We can see them stading up, they're clapping, everyone's cheering, they're waving, saying hello. Very unexpected that the fence came down, didn't think we'd get in so quickly everybody's here, there's a few riot police around but not too much. Everyone's pretty damn ecstatic at the moment and having a pretty amazing time, chanting ``freedom, freedom,'' ``etcetera, etcetera''. FENCE HAS BEEN DOWNED! CONTACT HAS BEEN MADE WITH THE DETAINEES! ------------------------------------------ Breaking News
WOOMERA2002 - DAY 2 Resistance both inside and outside Woomera Detention Centre is continuing today, following last night's action inside the centre and failed attempts to arrest protesters. This morning, protesters awoke to a 'wagon-circle' style camp with cars banked around to protect people sleeping inside the circle. Five busloads of people arrived just before midday, in time to support the detainees' noise and flag action on the rooftop of the detention centre. ACM and the Federal Government have closed off all access to the Woomera Detention Centre, and have threatened detainees with beatings if they protest. The Woomera Area Administrator threatened protesters on the outside with arrest if they refused to move from the campsite near the police roadblock into the fenced- off sports oval. Also today, the SA Premier revealed that millions of dollars of public money has been spent on the Woomera Concentration Camp. |
