National Work Stoppage on Friday, October 4![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Lets make this a bloody big one! This is the Dublin Council of Trade Unions EMERGENCY MOTION that is being distrubuted to all Shop-Stewards to read out to their regular Union Branch meetings, or in many cases an emergency Union Branch meeting, to vote on this EMERGENCY MOTION, or if that's not possible, small informal meetings are taking place at workplaces and factories all across Dublin city and county. So far from what I've heard there's been strong backing for this National Work Stoppage on Friday, October 4TH, with not much opposition being expressed at meetings by ordinary rank and file workers. I believe from I've heard, and correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that the Waterford Trades Council are mobilising for a 24-hour, all-out Work Stoppage in Waterford city and City, involving all workers from the private and public sector, the semi-state sector, and the civil service. Dublin Council of Trade Unions EMERGENCY MOTION Motion to Trades Councils Nationwide National Protest in Support of Irish Glass Bottle Workers This Trade Council calls on all workers to participate in a Nationwide Protest with a view to securing the full terms of Labour Court Recommendations at Irish Glass Bottle Company Limited and similarly Peerless Rugs. The refusal of such employers to honour Labour Court Recommendations intended to appropriately compensate workers who lose their jobs cannot be allowed to succeed, as this would have profound implications for all workers in Ireland. The reform of the Redundancy Payments Acts 1967-1991 are also long overdue and the Trade Union demand for a minimum of 3 week's pay per each year of service without reference to age should be implemented. The National Protest to commence at 2pm Friday, October 4, 2002 at designated locations throughout the country. All workers are urged to attend. |

Paul,
Although I'd love it if there was, but there is no 24 hour stoppage in Waterford city or county. The Waterford Council of Trade Unions is organising something similar to Dublin. There will be a march into the city but trade unionists followed by a gig in the city centre.
The stoppage will only be for 2 hours like everywhere else
