Please help with legal Fees incurred by protestors at Faslane.
Faslane Help
Between the 11th and the 13th of February, Trident Ploughshares, the CND and the Faslane Peace Camp organised the “Block’n Roll” blockade in Faslane, Scotland to demonstrate
against Britains nuclear submarines.
Nine of the 188 protesters arrested were from Ireland and all were charged with breach of the peace for being involved in Nonviolent Direct Action.
Some of these have been to court already. Others will have their trials soon.
Even though it is legal to peacefully protest the courts are more than likely to find everyone guilty. A normal procedure is for the judges to impose a fine of £100 (E 170).
Most of the people joining the protest were students, unemployed or people working for low wages.
We need your support to help pay the imposed fines and help meet the travel costs, to enable the people involved going on protesting in a non violent manner without having to spend time in jail for not being able to pay.
To shut down Faslane we need a growing number of people involved in the protest. More people involved in the blockades.
Which will mean as well more people arrested and fined.
To help shut down Trident you don’t have to travel all the way to Faslane.
You don’t have to sit on the wet concrete or risk jail.
You can help by helping us to stay involved!
Nuclear weapons are insane,
shut down Faslane!
Tommy Sheridan, Leader of the Scottish Socialist
Party told the Herald (as he was arrested):”We are acting in a very peaceful manner. We came
here in peace, for peace. The biggest crime is
the weapon of mass destruction on the other side of these gates.
I came to Faslane today to protest against the
illegality and immorality of nuclear weapons.
I’ve not, in any way, caused alarm to any other
citizen. I therefore object that I have caused a
breach of the peace.”
