To all citizens of Europe and to their representatives. Together let us stop the war on Iraq.

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Tuesday September 10, 2002 16:27author by MoI - Globalise Resistanceauthor email globalise_resistance at yahoo dot com Report this post to the editors

European call for action against war on Iraq

The following call was drawn up at the organising meeting for the European Social Forum in Brussels on September 7/8. It was initially signed by a number of individuals and organisations present. We wish to make it public very quickly. If you wish to support, please write 'supporting anti war call' with your details to [email protected]

drafted at the Brussels preparatory meeting for the ESF 8.9.02

To all citizens of Europe and to their representatives. Together let us stop the war on Iraq.

We do not accept this war and we do not believe it is inevitable. There is massive opposition in every country of Europe, and in many places people are starting to mobilise for peace.

This war will be a catastrophe first for the people of Iraq and second for people accross the Middle East. It will be a war without resolution with the potential to lead to global disaster.

Those who show solidarity with the people of Iraq have no hearing in the White House. But we do have the chance to influence European Governments - many of whom have opposed the war. We call on all the European heads of state to publicly stand against this war whether it has UN backing or not, and to demand that George Bush abandon his war plans.

We believe imminent war makes the European Social Forum ever more important and we urge the movements to redouble their efforts to bring people to Florence for the ESF which will be a vital platform for organising coordinated European wide action against war. Particularly we ask for attendance from across Europe for the anti war demonstration in Florence on Saturday November 9.

We call on the citizens of Europe and their representatives to take steps now to mobilise maximum resistance to war.
Mass demonstrations are planned in a number of European countries in the next few weeks. We urge the movements in every European country to follow this example as a matter of urgency.

Together we can stop this war.

I'm curious
-If you wish to support, please write 'supporting anti war call' with your details to [email protected]

And your name will be added to a petition? And you will be told about a public meeting? And you will be put on a mailing list? What happens if you send in your details?

There's at least one political organisation that's very fond of collecting signatures on petitions, petitions that are very rarely handed in to anyone, but are just used to collect contact details.

'[email protected]' is a bit of a contradiction in terms don't you think....!

Why don't you have anything positive to contribute to this newswire Ray you negative prick? Why don't you actually write an article for IMC Ireland instead of just whining and moaning about every article that appears here you negative prick? Or is that beyond your intellectual capabilities? Or are just too lazy to scratch your hole Ray?

Would not all these people jetting off to the ESF not be spending their time more usefully and productively staying here and spending the time campaigning against the Nice referendum?

Having been a regular user of indymedia for a while now its seens to me that your quite the prick ray.
Why dont you contribute or are you afraid you'll fall short of your own standards.
Your sad sad boy

I would have thought that since IMCer and John are so eager to contribute things they'd have turned up at Saturday's meeting. Maybe they were in disguise...

author by boredpublication date Wed Sep 11, 2002 11:28author address author phone Report this post to the editors

so you have to go to a meeting to post anything?

author by Raypublication date Wed Sep 11, 2002 11:42author address author phone Report this post to the editors

Of course not. But one of the ways people contribute to indymedia is by going to meetings that discuss raising money, editorial policy, technical questions, and so on. I'd have though two such eager and non-lazy people would have been interested contributors to the mailing lists and first at the door when the meeting started. Apparently not.
