Time for Starmer to be honest about what Net Zero means, says Chris Morrison. Rationing, blackouts and travel restrictions in five years. That's according to a Government-funded report that, for a change, says it plain.

Meet the woman so afraid of climate change she made her husband get the snip and refuses to have children. It's "selfish" to bring children into the world "when we don't know if it's going to exist in 100 years".

The Large Corbyn Labour Vote shows Socialist Polices resonate with the Masses

category international | politics / elections | opinion/analysis author Monday June 12, 2017 23:56author by T Report this post to the editors

The large vote for Corbyn's Labour socialist type policies shows that moving to the Left rather than the centre resonates with the masses and shows that things like issues of health, education and jobs are core issues and perhaps shows a sign that a certain section of the population is beginning to notice that practically every political party is infested with banking and corporate favoured policies and shrills and technocrats working on their behalf while the population is being relentlessly screwed by austerity.

The vote last Thurs 8th June caught most of the so-called political pundits and the mainstream media by surprise but then it is no surprise because all of them or at least most of them are just cheerleaders for the corporate state and they ran a relentless campaign against Corbyn. So it was despite the entire establishment stacked against him including many in the upper echleons of the Labour party that he managed to make some significant gains.

The base of Corbyn's support in the Labour party is from the grassroots and indeed since he became leader droves of young people have joined the party and it is the strength of this that has kept Corbyn in place over the last few years all the while the relentless criticism from both within and outside the party tried to force him out. Part of the reason is that many of the careerists, Blairites and the numerous Labour MPs against him have in fact long ago sold out politically to the right and the corporate state. Whether this is because they were never there for Left wing reasons, or over the years they became in-hoc to the system is unclear but it is a widespread phenomena and we see time and time ago so called nominally Left wing parties have completely sold themselves down the river. Two good cases are the Socialist party of Hollande in France and Syriza in Greece both of whom have delivered austerity despite large scale protests rather than stopped it as they had promised on the way into power. And in both of these cases where these parties had promised a swing to the left, the people turned out and supported them. It is possible that these constant disappointments are leading some people to now vote for candidate to the right. One could argue that what got Trump into power was the large body of people in the US made jobless over the past few decades and are completely disillusioned by the establishment and since Trump appeared to be anti-establishment -when in fact he just represents one faction of it, and he promised jobs then it is not hard to see how he picked up the vote. Now that the public in France saw through Hollande as to what a dupe he was, the establishment ran a brilliant marketing campaign their new and even more ruthless dupe Emmanuel Macron as he is completely a banker's man. Once again France has been fooled.

In all of this there seems to be a trend. The real power brokers have figured out constant disappointments seem to be okay on the populace while their policies favouring the 0.1% get through and that deploying candidates to the far left or far right seems to work because in ALL cases so far, they have been able to control the show once any of these people got in power -i.e Hollande and Syriza above and in Trump's case the military-industrial complex and intelligence apparatus are still calling the shots.

While there is much speculation that there might be another UK election not too far down the road and clearly the worry from the establishment is that Corbyn could win although, it is unlikely to be a major worry because the same mechanisms behind the scenes that gutted the Left wing policies of other Left parties in Europe are fully at work in the UK Labour party. Closer to home one can see in the last election, the Irish Labour party was practically wiped out. And why? Because they betrayed the core values.

What all this means and why there is still a glimmer of hope from the UK, is that with a large and effective body of grassroots members who are attentive to the manipulations by the corporate state, the constant media attacks, lies, spin and PR that they can counter-act some of this and hopefully thereby retain the main goals without them being watered down because this is how it works. Things get so watered down there is nothing left -no pun intended either. To be clear those goals are for a fairer and more equal society and a focus and push back on the class war that is going on all around yet no-one seems to call it out for what it is.

So it remains to be seen where things go from here and it is certainly good news but not great news from the UK.
