What we have seen in Starmer since July is a petty, inhumane, almost spiteful man who considers himself morally superior to the mass of humanity. This, says Dr David McGrogan, was confirmed in spades yesterday.

Bringing Up Children to be Animal Loving Animal (Ab)Users

category national | education | event notice author Sunday December 07, 2014 13:43author by Roger - The Vegan Information Project Report this post to the editors

Sociologists explore the cultural reproduction of human-nonhuman animal relations in childhood.

Focusing on the socialization of the human use of other animals in contemporary Western society, Matthew Cole & Kate Stewart explore the cultural reproduction of human-nonhuman animal relations in childhood. 10th December at The Outhouse, 7pm, Free entry.

With close attention to the dominant practices through which children encounter animals and mainstream representations of animals in children's culture, this presentation and Q&A based on the new book, Our Children and Other Animals: The Cultural Construction of Human-Nonhuman Animal Relations in Childhood, reveals the interconnectedness of studies of childhood, culture and human-animal relations.

We recognise that the dominant culture in Ireland is deeply speciesist. Join Matthew and Kate in identifying the social forces that shape childrens' ethical views. Most importantly, explore with these authors and researchers what those who want to bring about meaningful change and justice for others can do.

Matthew & Kate are appearing for this session via Skype
Text 086 391 2018 for more details.

this should be an important an thought provoking event .

to understand how an xploitative culture has shaped the ways in which we relate to one another is vital when it comes to resisting such xploitation . we r conditioned to think instrumentaly about those around us ,an our default reactions to all those who dont pass as 'normative' are usualy violent ones . understanding our own socialization gives us power over that prosess , an makes us aware of our agensy an the moral imperative to rebel against it .
thanx for posting this, Roger !! what do u feel the relevanse of this event wil be ,in terms of the intersectional message an xpansive view of veganism which VIP are commited to ?

i personaly found alot that spoke to me about socialy imposed restricitv/xploitative gender roles , for xample .
