Protest for X Case legislation Dáil 6 pm 28 November.

Protest for X Case legislation Dáil 6 pm 28 November.

NEVER AGAIN. Make the government hear us - Call for legislation for Savita on Wednesday November 28 at 6:00pm, Dáil Kildare Street.

The Dail Debate will be broadcast live outside. We need to make the government hear us - we need to keep the pressure on.

Clare Daly has reintroduced legislation on abortion that was rejected in the Dáil last April with a correction she said Minister for Health James Reilly had recommended. She said the debate had really highlighted how “inappropriate it is to have in our Constitution a clause that equates the life of the unborn with the life of the woman. That is the root of this problem.”

The legis lation will be debated on 27 & 28 November and the vote will take place on Wednesday night, 28 November.

Legislate for X - Campaign Update

More than 16,000 people participated in our online e-mail campaign Legislate for X since its start at the beginning of November. More than 68,000 e-mails were sent to TDs from all constituencies urging them to make legislation for X a government priority. The majority of e-mails were sent in reponse to the tragic death of Savita Halappanavar in Galway University Hospital.

The Expert Group on Abortion report is due to be discussed at Cabinet this week. The coming days are of critical importance in sending your TDs a clear and unambiguous message that the time for action is now - Legislate for X. We cannot allow another woman to die like Savita Halappanavar.

Here are a few ideas on what you can do to support the Legislate for X campaign.

1. Participate in our online e-mail campaign and write to your TD if you have not done so already.

2. Talk to your friends and family and ask them to take part in our online campaign.

3. Ring or visit your TD. This will be even more effective than sending the e-mail.

4. Share the link www.nwci.ie/takeaction on social media platforms.

5. Participate in any public marches being organised around the country.

We would like to alert you to the following events taking place this week:

1. Wednesday evening from 6pm there will be a protest in front of the Dáil. This will tie in with the Dáil debate on Clare Daly's bill to legislate in line with the X decision. The debate begins at 7.30pm and will be broadcast to the street. We will remain until the debate concludes and the vote is held at 9pm. Your presence at any stage during this period would be greatly appreciated.

2. On Saturday, there will be a National Day of Action in Galway at 2pm. Choice Ireland is running a bus to this event from Parnell Square, departing shortly after 10.30am and arriving back in Dublin around 8pm. A seat on the bus is €5. You can reserve your seat via Paypal to [email protected] or in cash to Choice Ireland at Wednesday's protest (look for our banner). If booking via Paypal please send your mobile number in case there is any last minute change of plans. Empty seats will be filled on Saturday morning on a first-come first-served basis.

Many thanks again for your support and for helping to keep the pressure on!

In solidarity
Choice Ireland

Attempts at intimidation fail.

""Important Cobh meeting [tonight] on abortion rights

In the wake of the tragic death of Savita Halappanavar a meeting will be held in the Commodore Hotel Cobh tomorrow Wednesday 28 November at 8pm.

The Commodore Hotel has received phone calls from anti-abortion activists threatening to campaign for a boycott of the hotel for allowing the meeting to take place. But management at the Commodore has said there should be freedom of speech and has refused to be bullied. The meeting will still go ahead at 8pm [tonight]."

Meeting speaker Mary Favier of Doctors for Choice, is an acknowledged expert on this question. We look forward to a good discussion at the meeting and will not be intimidated by threats. Women in Cobh like everywhere else in Ireland should have a right to choose."
